Our Credentials

my story

Postpartum Doula - Amanda Nafey - The Family Trimester

The Beginning: A Surprise That Changed Everything

Sixteen years ago, I got the surprise of my life — I was pregnant with identical twins.

For months, my calendar was packed with weekly appointments to monitor my babies’ health and my own.

Then, my girls were born. In an instant, the constant monitoring stopped, and I was sent home to recover from a c-section — exhausted, confused, and now responsible for two tiny newborns.

I was supposed to know exactly how to care for them, but I was still healing and completely overwhelmed.

Months later, when the fog lifted, I began researching postpartum care and realized just how neglected this stage of women’s health really is.

The Calling: From Struggle to Support
What I Do Today
A Bit About Me
Over the next few years, I read, researched, and began offering postpartum support to other families while growing my own — eventually adding two boys to our crew. I came to believe that the fourth trimester should be a time when women are: • Honored, nurtured, and given space to heal. • Supported in bonding with their new babies. • Provided time to help their other children adjust. • Encouraged to connect with their partners without losing themselves in motherhood. Women need a safe space — someone who has no agenda, listens without judgment, and can handle any topic without shock. That’s the role I’m honored to fill.
Now, I spend my days walking alongside strong women, empowering them, and encouraging them as they navigate motherhood in their own way. It’s truly a privilege to be part of their journey.
I live in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, with my husband, our four children, and the world’s greatest Labrador. Some things that make me happiest: • A quiet moment with coffee and a good book • Cooking and baking for our large (and loud) family and friends • Hosting weekend guests • Hiking, traveling, and cheering from the soccer sidelines (usually with homemade scones and a giant water bottle) I’m originally from Maine, so the smell and sound of the sea will always feel like home.
